We start with a greeting song, going on to a variety of action rhymes and songs, which may relate to the season or things the children have experienced. One s0ng may then be taken into movement, eg: 2, 3 & 4 year olds (with their parent) may pretend to go the woods (wrap up warm, drive their cars/bicycles, splash in puddles, get stuck in mud, be squirrels, have picnic etc). I use my own ideas and those of the children, and have the flexibility to develop ‘dances’, in the moment, that both excite and inspire them.
I use a wide variety of music (world, pop, folk & classical) and props (streamers, ribbons, balls, balloons & hoops) to encourage movement play. I also use a drum to create different rhythms and games.
Towards the end of the session, children play percussion instruments enabling them to express themselves through music, as well as movement, learning new songs, rhythms and dynamics.
